Music therapy is defined by the Australian Music therapy Association Inc (AMTA) as a research-based practise and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing.
Registered Music Therapists (RMT’s) are skilled musicians who are trained to understand how music impacts behaviour, cognitive processes and emotions.
They work collaboratively with individuals to decide on goals to be addressed in music therapy, facilitate music experiences in which people can participate comfortably and evaluate the benefits of music to people’s health and well being. (Australian Music Therapy Association).
Occupational therapy (OT) is a degree-based health profession, regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Occupational therapists use a whole person perspective to work with individuals, groups and communities to achieve optimal health and wellbeing through participation in the occupations of life

1. ASSESSMENT
** Functional capacity assessments to understand a child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs across home, school, and community settings
** Occupational Therapy assessments focusing on fine motor skills, gross motor skills, self-care, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and participation in everyday activities
** Music Therapy assessments exploring communication, social interaction, emotional expression, engagement, and regulation through music-based interactions
** School-based assessments to support learning, classroom participation, handwriting, attention, and play skills
** Standardised and informal assessments, selected based on the child’s age, goals, and functional needs (including observation, caregiver input, and play-based assessment)
** NDIS-ready assessment reports that link findings to functional impact, strengths, and evidence-based recommendations for supports and therapy goals
** Sensory Profile assessment and recommendations
** Work Capacity Evaluation assessment and recommendations
2. CAPACITY BUILDING INTERVENTION
** Intervention using occupational therapy and music therapy techniques to encourage, enhance and maximise independence and engagement in a person’s life. This may include community access, personal and domestic tasks, emotional and sensory regulation, communication, gross and fine motor function, finance management, transitions and workplace access.
3. INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPERVISION
** Supervision plays a crucial role in the development and support of therapists by providing them with guidance, feedback, and a supportive environment for enhancing their clinical skills, navigating ethical dilemmas, fostering personal growth, staying updated on best practices, and maintaining accountability in their professional practice.
